LUK FALL/WINTER 2002

Welcome to the Total Look by Luk. Luc La Roche introduces sleek streamlining and a women's line in 'Hick Chic' Fall/Winter 2002-03. It doesn't take long to realize that Luk is aiming to catapult the label to the front lines of trendy/urban sportswear apparel.

There is no real differentiation between the mens' and womens' lines, save for skirts and dresses. The mens' black Merino wool turtleneck and red large corduroy jean-cut pant is fluid, while the womens' eggplant Microfiber cowl neck top with camel cotton low-waist skirt underscores La Roche's commitment to techno fabrics. Once again, brushed cotton is a favourite. The highlights of the collection and another new turn for Luk are the grey double-sided beaver jackets, items deluxe. "It was a joint venture with Furko to bring fur into sportswear for a new generation."

It's a big change from last season, all swimwear and Swarovski crystals. In this collection, Luk moves in an acute direction to marketable apparel, relying on the exposure that the previous collections have garnered. "We were ready to get back into sportswear again. Our line is basic but well-studied." The label has shown the capacity to reinvent itself countlessly and perhaps this commercial flexibility could serve as an example to other fashion designers looking to shift gears.
