Peros
fall/winter 2002/3
Canadian
fall/winter 2002 takes another positive step into cross-seasonal terrain
with 'Central London', Mark Peros' statement of Marianne Faithful chic.
The energy levels that made the British Invasion possible are utilized
to craft a strong womenswear collection.
The London
look is the perfect opportunity for Peros to expound on stripes, with
wide irregular stripes in grey, blue, white and beige for light cotton
suits, skirts and an open-front sleeveless dress. The collection heralds
the triumphant return of orange, after its conspicuous absence from recent
runway fare. The Wimbledon short jacket and Upney green cord pants deliver
with a great two-tone look, as does the grey suit with different front
and back gradations. Details like large buttons and pocket flaps, wide
lapels and boldly flared pants articulate the vintage Peros is aiming
for. Many of the outfits can be split into separates and sombre London
mutes tame the bright colours of icon zeitgeist. Basic apparel is even
available with off-the-shoulder jersey.
As we saw
in the grand finale with His Majesty The Queen parading to pomp and circumstance,
sometimes a surprise figure will take the cake. If Mark Peros can put
something like this together every season, without the luxury of a borrowed
theme, he may have to prepare for an invasion of his own.
