David Dixon SPRING/SUMMER 2002
Canadian
fashion iconoclast David Dixon has been making his name as an innovative
design engine, always falling slightly outside the margin. For Spring
2002, Dixon continues to surprise. For women, the black and white gowns
with swooping geometrical curves falling into an asymmetrical dirndl
skirt places the collection at a level of high avant-garde alert. Dixon
uses the waist as a fluid, pivotal point. In this endeavour, the wide
belt is used well, a blue leather model accessorizing a yellow double-layered
skirt. A straight-cut, long-sleeve chocolate top with a tan skirt sporting
brown fragmented appliqué is a perfect marriage of stark and
warm looks. For men, the yellow double-layered mesh vests and black
organza tops offer some sensual and versatile options.
Dixon is a trendsetter, not a follower, and he knows just how far he
can go. We asked David about the understated avant-garde that is the
method to his madness. "I let the collection
evolve from season to season. The clothes aren't trying to be all things
to all people."
