Pat McDonagh SPRING/SUMMER 2002
Pat McDonagh
has pulled off another fashion miracle. "It
took a month-and-a-half to prepare the collection," McDonagh
teases. The veteran Canadian designer has crafted a lavish conglomerate
of diverse looks and timelines for Spring 2002. A tangerine suit shares
the same exuberance as the pleated 1950's georgettes in Jackson Pollock
prints. A 1920's silk chiffon flute dress with floral shoulder-straps
has a modernized silhouette. The collection has a magical aura to it,
revealing McDonagh's true joie de vivre.
The highlight of the segment 'A Tribute To Frida Kalo & Free Spirited
Women Through Out The World' is a long, trailing lemon yellow gown with
sewn black Victorian lace. When we asked McDonagh about the latin dance
theme used as a segue throughout the show, she underscores a concept
crucial to understanding the collection. "Dance
is an important part of fashion because clothing is about movement."
