Yolanda Ng SPRING/SUMMER 2002
Graduating
from Ryerson Polytechnic University three months ago, Yolanda Ng burst
onto the scene with a fierce, standout show at Toronto Fashion Week.
Her debut collection exudes a rocking, raw sexuality that Ng says "is
about being proud of one's body." The body is given front
and centre stage in Ng's pieces, with laser cut-outs and ventilation
features acting as punchy gateways between inner and outer 'space'.
The pentagon perforated smoke blue leather skirt and quilted denim bustier
is sure to bring the rockstar out of anyone. The prevailing punk attitude
is no accident. "I think all women's clothes
need to have an edge."
Vidal Sassoon
did a brilliant job in re-inventing a 1920's hairstyle for the show.
