The collection
was presented to media and buyers alike in a flashy runway production
on September 6, 2001 at Kamkyl's new retail space, (slated to open in
Spring 2002) as part of the inaugural Montreal Fashion Week. Douglas elaborates
on the theme. " There is a new generation of peaceful
protesters that are taking a stance against the commercial destruction
of our world. They want to give something back, to be responsible citizens."
This sentiment is clearly articulated in the diverse collection. The multi-functional
smoke-black back-pocketed utility jacket and matching cargo pants are
marked by clean cuts and angular confidence. The iridescent pinstripe
suits are made of fabric light enough to roll the sleeves into French
cuffs, offering a touch of European sophistication. The collection also
features a pair of burnt orange corduroy pants sporting raw seams, a detail
that is becoming a Kamkyl couture signature. The "
Feed before you eat " slogan T-shirts are all part of Kamkyl's
strategy to target what they feel is an underrepresented demographic -
socially conscious, affluent, young creative leaders.
