ARTHUR MENDONÇA
fall/winter 2003
Arthur Mendonça
makes a pretty diverse debut splash with his men's and women's ready-to-wear.
Women's silhouettes are tight and to the point, and he accomplishes
this well in the high-waisted leather mini-bombers, whose ribbing details
make them the trendy little objets désirés that several
designers are flaunting this season. Satin dresses come in many contours
and colours, with some of them showing a little leg and others with
a conservative cinch. The diversity is thorough; Mendonça even
throws in a striking tweed trench with succulent bits of caramel leather
detail for good measure.
For men, the silhouettes
seem to be a tad more rigid, the men's deep lustre leather trench coat
being a prime example. The suits are nothing special, and Mendonça
comes closer to offering something original with the black velvet blazer
and the peacock blue pants.
