Falbala
spring/summer 2005
Spring is about
unmitigated celebration; Falbala doesn't let us forget this as they
promise to start spring 2005 with a bang.
Falbala continues
what is quickly becoming a Montreal fashion tradition-vividly contrasting
colours that challenge the outfits to search for harmony in diverse
ways. This harmony is found in radical pieces like the hot salmon and
white striped skirt and top, which because of the fitted silhouette
masquerades as a dress missing a midsection. There is room for symmetry
and asymmetry in the same outfit, as Falbala shows us time and time
again.
Not only is this
collection full of shoulder straps, but the outfits show them off as
integral parts of silhouette, using them as well-placed bits of (often
contrasting) colour. From broad bands to spaghettini filaments, these
details speak volumes for the case of utility being made pretty.
There is European
flair in Falbala's marked A-line shapes and in the proliferation of
blistering white. Gladly, this international flavour is difficult to
ignore.
