FASHION DESIGNERS COLLECTIONS FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2007

Aqualara
spring/summer 2007

If any swimwear designer has come even close to fusing swimwear with evening wear, then it would have to be Aqualara’s Reyhan Sofraci.

Deft cuts mark the two-piece bikinis for greatness, as it also does for the one-piece suits. Some of the cross-joining creates titillating X-marks-the-spot shapes, sometimes located not where you’d expect. The fabric is worked and folded as organically as possible, stopping just short of becoming too complicated.

Where the evening wear comes in is when the bikinis are paired with matching off-the-shoulder dresses. The sashaying white and burnt orange camisoles do the same thing, if you can picture baring your bottom at the next dinner party.

Piping and underwire is behind these ground-breaking silhouettes, yet it does so in an unobtrusive way. I hope the diamond-shaped attachments, however, are more comfortable than they look.

The majority of the swimsuits in the collection, one that has all the bases covered, is in shades of burgundy and copper. There are splashes of green and blue for those who envision a more colourful time by the pool.
