FASHION DESIGNERS COLLECTIONS FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2007

Dinh Bá Design
spring/summer 2007

Dinh Bá allows himself to be carried away by the tides of romanticism for his spring/summer 2007 collection, and fittingly, shares his dream with Montreal fashionistas in the newly re-furbished Imperial Theatre, whose romantic features harken back to the original construction of 1913.

Both the grey linen gaucho and tunic remind us why Dinh Bá is becoming renowned for silhouette—sharp lines sculpted for maximum movement. Even when the clothes get busier with geometric patterns and distressed fabric, killer shape is never more than a shimmy away.

Veteran designer Andy Thê-Anh was a fan of Dinh Bá’s latest offering.

“For a young designer, this collection seems very focused. It’s commercial and saleable. My favourite pieces have to be the eyelet suits in black.”

With honeycomb skirts and dresses in dazzling white-on-white, or popping white on black in undulating layers, it’s hard to disagree. The skirts have a way of drawing attention to the waist with inventive obi twists, perhaps a nod to the designer’s Eurasian roots.

History and romance—how can they be separated? Certainly not in this collection.
