FASHION DESIGNERS COLLECTIONS FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2007

Envers
spring/summer 2007

Envers whisks us to the land of make-believe with it’s spring/summer 2007 collection, with 60’s looks that are light, playful, and a touch bizarre.

Remember those other-worldly vixens who would float onto the set of the original Star Trek to woo the captain and his crew? Thankfully, the awkward bunched-up taffeta and silk was replaced by more elegant styles for women. The lavender top/obi wrap is a little more earth-bound, while the spaghetti-strap halter top, paired with royal blue bloomers, is about as cutesy as Envers gets.

There is little differentiating the silk boudoir sets from the silk dresses, and that is probably a good thing. With shimmering solid colours of black, white and blue, who wants to know the difference between a dress and a camisole, anyway? With the creations of Yves-Jean Lacasse, we feel free to leave our preconceptions at home.

For men, there is something very ‘tennis club’—aristocratic and relaxed at once. The tops and shorts are simple combos that work, as are the blazers and loose cotton pants. I don’t think, however, that the clunky appliqué helps to cement the simplicity that the rest of the menswear puts out.

Must-have alert: the paint-spattered top is a cool collector piece. Steal it before Madonna commissions a batch for her next world tour.
