It seems to me that spring/summer 2007 isn’t the first time Muse has explored nautical themes, though  maybe this was the first time it was set to “The Love Boat” soundtrack.  

Avast ye matey! Perhaps we should be thankful to have red and white stripes instead of the cliché aqua-blue, and for the stripes to be less visually violent than the more rash geo-patterns we’re seeing on the runways this spring. I’d hate to be lost at sea, however, drowning in so much anchor motif.

The silhouettes are tight and sexy, whether it be the sculpted skirts or the looser bat-wing crêpe tops. This collection is decidedly light, as the white eyelet cotton demonstrates with loose draping, ventilated sleeves, and wraparound features. Indeed, the highlights of Muse spring/summer 2007 are these airy yet shapely creations. The eyelet suit jacket atop a billowing 70’s summer dress—white as far as the eye can see.

The hybrid pieces in the collection, the ones where veteran designer Christian Chenail attempts to cobble together too many looks, stick out like a sore thumb. And if Muse is to persuade customers to adopt such gaudy colour combinations, they would do well to make the layering flattering to the silhouette.
