MONTREAL
(Monday January 20th 2003) - February 6th 2003, Siphay Southidara
(a.k.a. YSO) will be featured at Toronto's Design Exchange's
(DX) "Re-Design" exhibition. The concept of this Canada-Japanese
initiative is the re-design of everyday objects by interdisciplinary
designers in order for them to create more enjoyment and more
interaction with the user.
Siphay Southidara,
chose the T-shirt as object and created the Rechargeable T.
The T-shirt has always been the most accessible piece of clothing
and "the single most powerful fashion metaphor of the century"
(Vogue).
The rechargeable-T-shirt has been created in a state of mind
and a poetic interpretation, with a front piece that can be
easily changed and switched for another, the message evolving
without creating an entirely new shirt, thus reducing materials,
waste and production costs.
Four other
designers, from across the country, have been chosen to participate,
each presenting an object playing an important role in our everyday
lives, to deconstruct and redesign it.
Among them Andrew Jones (Architect), Diane Bisson (Graphic designer)
and Peter Busby.
